Rebrand

Just a website

Just a magazine

Are you a start-up with no branding to speak of? Perhaps your business has a logo but needs to expand it's visuals for a new round of marketing. Maybe you have some branding in place, and just need a well written and designed leaflet. Whatever your creative requirements, One Bird Design can help. Before you call, this page goes over some of the basics; the brand egg to the right shows how it fits together and illustrates all the services One Bird can provide!

Branding is:

You could replace the word branding with 'personality'. So whilst you might know what your business is all about, how do you express your business' personality (or brand) to your customers and staff? This is done by creating an effective brand identity based on research and strategy work, and then expressing this identity consistently in every area of your business. So not only in the design of your logo, but also in how your brochures are written, where and how you advertise, in the tone of voice staff may use on the shop floor, or even the way people navigate your website.

Do I need some?

Probably! If you have a business and plan to engage with your customers, it is likely that you will need some level of brand work. Even small one-man bands can benefit from this, and of course the larger the organisation, the more important it is that everyone understands how your business's identity is meant to be expressed and visualised.

One Bird Design can help you to create and develop your brand, looking at strategy, competition, and importantly positioning. This brand work will help to inform the development of your visual identity, which in turn makes the process of designing your website/brochure/report/advert, quicker, smoother and more successful.

Yeah yeah, I just need a website thanks...

That's OK too - you just want a website or a brochure produced quickly, and don't need any branding. One Bird Design can deliver this as well. We design and write brochures, guides and leaflets creating a 'look and feel' for your one-off piece. Have a look at the website and brochure case studies to see how we do it.

Brand Creation

Spartacus Communications Ltd.

a b c

d e

Spartacus is a start-up, it has a name, but nothing else and therefore needs to create a brand identity from scratch. We begin with an initial consultation where we discuss the ins and outs of the business, how it works, what it does and where it trades. Spartacus also fill in a brand questionnaire answering specific questions relating to positioning, values, and the competition. One Bird Design uses this information to start building up a brand strategy. We visualise the business model (a), and build up a visual map of the competition (b). We create a personality map (c) pulling together descriptive words that inform the initial designs boards (d). This work is presented and feedback given. In Spartacus's case, we hit upon our visual identity really quickly, and the final logo design is presented (e). The next stage is to create a starter package of stationary and presentation material, including business cards, letterheads, PPT templates, and for phase 2 a website. back to top

Brand Development

Hazelwood Building Contractors

Hazelwood are expanding their business, and changing their core offer. They also need to build a website, produce brochures and add signage to their van. Whilst they like their existing logo and colour, there's not enough information to adequately brand the new material in an impactful manner. So One bird helps them to develop their existing brand, expanding their colour palette, creating a library of illustrations to be used as background textures, and producing a set of brand guidelines they can give to the specialist sign writers who will physically produce their decals and boards. back to top

Rebrand

Mediawatch UK

Mediawatch have taken on a new director in the form of Vivienne Pattinson. A rebrand was required to reflect their friendly, more approachable personality. Equally, with the continual evolution of media forms, their previous logo felt out dated. Following the same process we do for building a brand from scratch, we consulted with Mediawatch, conducting interviews with staff members to find out how the organisation has changed and what image they wanted to project. We then presented a set of design boards that visually reflected these changes, choosing a more classic and softer font, and introducing a gradiated colour palette. We also produced a texture that visualises the idea of 'media'. with this new set of brand assets we go on to produce a leaflet and begin the website design. back to top

Just A Website

Caroline Plaisted - www.carolineplaisted.com

ABCD

Caroline Plaisted is a successful children's author who needs a website where she can communicate with her audience. The branding and design for all her books is taken care of piecemeal by the publishers, so there was no need to 'brand' Caroline, we could simply proceed with the design and build of a site. After a consultation, One Bird begins by drawing up a site map (a). This shows what goes where, how the links work and what content is required. At this stage we also discuss hosting, domain names, email and search engine optimisation. One Bird Design sets this up for Caroline. We then proceed with the design (b) and create a 'look and feel'. This is a pared down version of working out a brand identity; obviously we want the site design to be appropriate to the end user and reflect Caroline's work, but we don't need to produce any other design or marketing collateral, so we can focus our attentions on the website alone. We then write the content (c). In this case Caroline writes her own copy (being a writer!), but One Bird design also provides a content and web copy writing service if required; writing for websites is a specialised skill, care is needed to ensure your website is optimised for search engines and includes key words and phrases where possible. Once the design and copy are signed off, we begin the build. In this case One Bird builds the site, but where content management systems (CMS), or e-commerce is required, we work with JS Web Services who provide the extra technical expertise. As each page is built Caroline is given opportunity to view and feedback. When the site is complete, we test the site and when we are sure there are no bugs in the system, we go live. If a CMS has been built, training and guides are provided by JS Web Services to ensure you know how to update your own site in the comfort of your own home. back to top

Just a Brochure

Goodwood 2010

Goodwood used to design their own PDF media guides in-house but this year decided to work with One Bird Design and Racenews publishers, creating a physical book in magazine format that journalists could reference at the race. They wanted something understated but well designed which would follow their existing branding. They briefed One Bird, giving guidance on the cover in particular and then general thoughts for the main content. Goodwood provided all the imagery, Racenews wrote the copy, and One Bird put the design together. Several versions were presented and feedback taken before settling on the final design. One Bird then liaised directly with printers Stoate & Bishop to deliver the final glossy media guide ready for this years Goodwood race meet. One Bird can also source and commission photography, and create bespoke illustrations if you don't have an existing library of images. One Bird also works with copywriters to create content if that is also needed. back to top
